Lake Echo access

The Inland Fisheries Service, in conjunction with Hydro Tasmania and MAST has recently completed an upgrade of access and boating facilities at Lake Echo. A new 3.5km gravel access road and concrete boat ramp has been completed at Large Bay. This ramp is located at the North Western end of the lake providing access to water sheltered from the prevailing winds and opens up the entire northern end of the lake. Anglers should take care during periods of low water levels as the new ramp is over 60m long and steep grade-4wd is recommended. The gravel ramp at Middle Echo has been extended and re-gravelled. The ramp at the Dam Wall has been extended and re-gravelled. New directional signage has been installed to direct anglers to these three boat ramps. Preferred access points are from Dee Lagoon in the South and Bronte Lagoon to the West (see map below).

As well as levelling the surface the road was also widened and roadside vegetation cleared. The carpark has also been regraded which will make life easier for those visiting this popular fishery. The Inland Fisheries Service is extremely grateful to Forestry Tasmania for their assistance and at the opening of the 2008/09 angling season the large numbers of anglers who fish this popular fishery will also be very appreciative of their works.
