Liawenee Trout Weekend May 17th & 18th 2008

Liawenee Trout Weekend May 17th & 18th 2008

Each year the IFS has a weekend in May where its’ Liawenee base facilities opens to the public. This is a popular event attracting thousands who brave the usually cool weather to come and see what the IFS is all about. Many come to see the 'stripping' of brown trout as they migrate up the Liawenee Canal from Great Lake to spawn but there are also recreational fisheries displays, native fish aquaria and carp management equipment. This year the junior 'fish-out' pond (for children under 14) will again be a feature. Fishcare Volunteers will supervise the pond, kids can keep their catch and there will be prizes for those that catch a tagged fish. A popular feature of last year’s weekend, the bus tours to the Liawenee fish trap, will be on again. Hopefully the trap will be brimming with trout for all to see. There will be trade exhibitions of fishing tackle and associated equipment, fly tying and casting demonstrations, food to warm up your inside and a whole lot more. So come along to the Liawenee base the weekend of May 17 and 18, gates open at 10 am both days.
